What is Zumba? Zumba is a  dancing fitness sensation with a twist to help people have more fun while they are working out.  Although, some people are intimidated by the mere thought of learning dance steps as a workout, they’re has been many positive results as to how implementing Zumba fitness in their workouts  has changed many lives.   To help you break into the world of Zumba , Juicy Highlights spoke  exclusively to Zumba fitness instructor, Felicia Barclay; and here are her 5 key ways to achieve results from Zumba fitness and tips to achieve those goals:   1. Stay hydrated: Zumba classes range in intensity and length from 45 minutes to 2 hours of straight cardio. Make sure to always have a bottle of water ready if you ever feel yourself becoming dehydrated. This is especially important for Zumba newbies!   2. Wear comfortable shoes: this is something I notice with students in many of my classes. I’ve even seen people take a Zumba class with no shoes on! This is a big no-no. You always want to make sure you’re wearing breathable clothing as well as comfortable shoes. Your feet should be supported at all times when taking any fitness class, otherwise you’ll soon notice the side effects and discomfort.   3. Don’t stop moving: lots of people taking Zumba fitness classes for the first time get a little intimidated because they’re not a professional dancer. Here’s the great news: a dance background isn’t necessary! I always encourage my students to do the best that they can to follow my lead, but if they’re having trouble, don’t sweat it. The most important thing isn’t memorizing the choreography on your first try, but instead to keep your body moving. Never get frustrated with yourself and stand still, keep moving you’ll get it!   4. After Zumba meal: after taking a fitness class and burning away those unforgiving calories, your hard work can be easily erased if you go home and make poor meal choices. You don’t have to go home and eat salad (although if you do, stay away from the heavy stuff like ranch and French dressing), but be sure to eat something healthy or at the very least follow the portion control rule. I’m not a nutritionist, but I believe that we can continue to enjoy our favorite meals as long as we keep our portions under control and stay away from late night ice cream binges! Don’t forget your water! 5. Have fun: when I took my first Zumba class, I remember thinking that was the most fun I’ve ever had at the gym. For most people the words “fun” and “gym” are rarely ever found in the same sentence. After several months of taking classes with really great instructors, it inspired me to take the plunge and become a certified Zumba instructor. Seeing the smiles on my students’ faces keeps a smile on my face during the entire class. I love hearing first time Zumba students tell me how much fun they’ve had in my class. So always remember to leave the stresses of your day at the front door and get ready to break a sweat! I guarantee it would be one of the best experiences you’ve ever had at the gym. Wepa!   Now are you ready to Zumba?! I know I am and if you want to find out where classes are being held near you, just go to the  Zumba website and dance the night away while burning calories!!!!!
