It’s Young Believers Y’all !!!!!!

Posted in JUICYHIGHLIGHTS, UNDERGROUND BUZZ on August 23, 2010 by Stephanie

What is Hip Hop? Better yet how would you describe Hip Hop Today? Is Hip Hop only suppose to be about smacking your girl up , dropping it like it’s hot and shooting up our black sisters and brothers ? Or do you think Hip Hop can be used as a positive Christian influence in the young hip hop community?

Although Christian hip hop’s popularity has yet to hit the mainstream waives hardcore, there are still others keeping it alive thru their church communities. One local group particularly, that is creating an underground buzz and keeping Christian Hip Hop relative in the heart of Brooklyn, is Young Believers.  Lovers of god and inspired by god, Young Believer’s are a group of five ambitious men by the names of  William Blythers, Van Walker, Malcom Smith and lead by Mel Cody and Markell Armstrong .

Following the preaching’s and spiritual guidance of their Bishop Gerald Seabrooks,Young Believer’s, have become a  group with a strong Christian  background and belief , but also practice what they preach. Inspired and focused, YB has  found a way to stay in the path of their teachings, by always making sure to perform with a purpose to  inform their audience. With many Lyrical Christian values and positivity YB has definitely found a way to many hearts of non-believers to Christian hip hop. Read more »

(Young Riot - Artist  / James Del Gatto- Director )

This past sunday I was on the set of  Young Riots music video shoot at Lobo Recording Studios and while I was on the set I spoke to Young Riot and  Director James Del Gatto.  Although, these two creative talents  are up and coming in the music industry, they have  definitetly been around enough to create a stir in the music industry circle.

First let’s start with James Del Gatto , once an intern under  Little X,  Del Gatto has now branched out to make a name for himself by working with artist like  Lil’ Wayne, Juelz Santana , T.I and many others.  Now although, the name may not ring a bell to some ,  his work will definitely speak for it’s self, because you will be able to see more of his projects that he has currently worked on that will be released soon.   A few of those projects  will be  Del Gatto’s  1o day behind the scene documentary with T.I before he was incarcerated and his music video with Juelz Santana ft. Lil Wayne  called “ Home Run “ ,  which will premiere on BET.

(Next- CCO of Amalgam/ Young Riot )

Signed to Amalgam Digital,  Young Riot, aka Mr. I’m So Yes, has already made a name for himself in the world of hip hop.   Inspired and determined to become a successful artist,  Riot,  has already created an underground buzz and  gained national recognition in Source Magazine and Hip Hop Weekly at the age of 21.  Currently, Young Riot is touring and promoting his single “Yes At Me”.  Check out some pictures and interview to follow.   Until then, let me know what you think!

A Complete Smash At The Blue Note

Posted in JUICYHIGHLIGHTS, UNDERGROUND BUZZ with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 24, 2010 by Stephanie

To start off, lets give you all a bit of history about the Blue Note.  The Blue Note, which is located in the Greenwich Village, of New York City has been the home of many jazz legends like Dizzy Gillespie and many powerful people in the music industry such as: Quincy Jones, Liza Minelli, Toni Bennett and Stevie Wonder. As the Blue Note became the home of all these soulful musicians, the popularity continued to grow and the dreams of performing on the Blue Note stage by younger musicians, became a dream of accomplishments and honor.  Now that I’ve given you a bit of history, I can tell you my story about these three young musicians by the name of Rhaj Mason, Taylor McFerrin and Brockett Parsons.

Rahj a talented beat box maniac and walking Ipod, :) has created such a unique way of delivering music that he always keeps you wanting more, Brockett,( Lady Gaga’s Pianist), a talented pianist who is undeniably sick on the keys just leaves you astonished and speechles, and Taylor McFerrin( Son of  Bobby McFerrin- ” Dont worry be happy” /Bobby & Taylor McFerrin)  is a kick ass beat boxer, songwritter and composer  that makes you look at music in another artistic way that you could never imagine.   As these three young musicians grew their 8 year career together, they have finally accomplished one goal and that is becoming part of the Blue Notes history. Once the tickets were sold out and the long line that wrapped around the Jazz club was seated, the lights went down and a stellar performance was taken place.

Once their performance came into life, these three musicians performed some of their orignal songs of their album ” Burgundy Jonze”.  One of the songs that was performed which was one of my  favorites is, ” Stay With Me ”, which Rahj dedicated to his grandparents. ” Stay with me”  describes, love at it’s best, which is couple’s  playing by their own rules and being in their own world  no matter what the ups and downs are of a relationship; because at the end of the day the connection that you have found with someone is greater than all the petty fights.   During the this awsome perfomance, the group also had support from some special celebrity guests and just to name one , Peter Gunz was in the house and hit the stage with them as well, performing “Blue Roses”.   Until next time, make sure to check out my follow up interview.

The rebels are coming Ladies and Gents and they are not going down without a fight!  Game Rebellion, has been creating such a buzz on their ” Sounds Like A Riot Tour”, across the country.   The  Hip Hop and Rock-N- Roll  group, based out of Brooklyn have been such an influence in the underground world with the “ Ghetto Metal Movement”. Their incredible performances and relatable lyrics to life and politics have left lasting impressions on their fans.

This band not only works hard together, but they consider themselves brothers.  Nectic, (Lead Vocalist) has a great way of capturing the audience in his performance and style. Yohimbe, (Guitar and Vocals), has a wild and crazy side with the influence of Metallica. Emi (Piano, Trumpet and vocals), carries much mystery behind his mask while performing.   Ahmed, (Bass and Vocals ), has an intriguing and smooth groove when playing the bass. Last but not least, Aaron, (Drummer ), is the heartbeat that creates and expresses the  passion and excitement through every intense beat.

With all that said, Game Rebellion has released their latest single, “Blind”, which they currently shot a video for this pass monday .  Although, I didn’t know what to expect before the video shoot,  the taping and direction of the video turned out exciting and crazy in a Game Rebellion wild style.   Currently, the single “Blind” is on I-tunes as well as Amazon.  Check it out and let me know what you all think!!! “ Head bopper or Why bother?”  In the mean time, Game Rebellion will continue their tour next month and their next stop, India.  So please be aware of the next riot near you !

SORORITY OF THE MONTH

 Zeta

founders_pearls

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority would be remiss not to pay homage to the first women who believed in the need for a new and different type of Greek-lettered organization and acted upon that need. To these women, Zeta was more than an organization-it was a movement, a belief system that reflected, at its core, the desire to provide true Service, to embrace Scholarship, to set a standard for Sisterly Love and to define the noble concept of Finer Womanhood. This belief has sustained and encouraged Zetas around the world to hold fast to the ideals initiated and developed by its earliest members.

The Founders of Zeta were strong, principled coeds who possessed a great deal of modesty, strength of character and pride in academic achievement. They are indeed a worthy foundation upon which to base our illustrious Sorority.

FRATERNITY OF THE MONTH

Posted in UNDERGROUND BUZZ on June 8, 2009 by Stephanie

Sigmas

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated was founded at Howard University in Washington, D.C., January 9, 1914, by three young African-American male students. The founders, Honorable A. Langston Taylor, Honorable Leonard F. Morse, and Honorable Charles I. Brown, wanted to organize a Greek letter fraternity that would truly exemplify the ideals of brotherhood, scholarship, and service.

The founders deeply wished to create an organization that viewed itself as “a part of” the general community rather than “apart from” the general community. They believed that each potential member should be judged by his own merits rather than his family background or affluence…without regard of race, nationality, skin tone or texture of hair. They wished and wanted their fraternity to exist as part of even a greater brotherhood which would be devoted to the “inclusive we” rather than the “exclusive we”.

From its inception, the Founders also conceived Phi Beta Sigma as a mechanism to deliver services to the general community. Rather than gaining skills to be utilized exclusively for themselves and their immediate families, the founders of Phi Beta Sigma held a deep conviction that they should return their newly acquired skills to the communities from which they had come. This deep conviction was mirrored in the Fraternity’s motto, “Culture For Service and Service For Humanity”.

Today Phi Beta Sigma has blossomed into an international organization of leaders. No longer a single entity, members of the Fraternity have been instrumental in the establishment the Phi Beta Sigma National Foundation, the Phi Beta Sigma Federal Credit Union, and The Sigma Beta Club Foundation. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, founded in 1920 with the assistance of Phi Beta Sigma, is the sister organization of the Fraternity. No other fraternity and sorority is constitutionally bound as Sigma and Zeta. We both enjoy and foster a mutually supportive relation.

SigmaLambdaBetaFrat

Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Incorporated is committed to developing individuals to their fullest potentials in order to help serve the needs and wants of our people. As members, Brothers learn to “open their eyes” to see the possibilities that are open to all students, to share thoughts and ideas, and to recognize the potential that we as a united front can and will illustrate which will keep our shared values alive and working. Each Brother has the responsibility to develop and utilize his own skills and assets in anyway that may contribute to the overall success of the Fraternity, and more importantly help improve our community, country, and the world.
Throughout the past eighteen years, the Lambda Betas have spread the message of positive change in the Latino Community by setting an example of pride and wisdom in our culture. There is still a lot of work that needs to be performed, but together we can make a positive difference in society and our community. As the Latin Phrase in our Fraternity Shield reads “CONGRESSI SUPERAMUS DIVISI CADIMUS,” united we stand, divided we fall.
